What to do if you find a cat?

There is no easy answer to this question because admitting cats to our shelter facility is based on space availability. Keep in mind that a friendly cat is someone's missing pet. If you feed a stray, he/she will never go home. Do not encourage him/her to stay unless you plan to keep him. Call our shelter for information about SNR (Spay, neuter and return for future surrender) program for friendly Warwick strays. Stray cats are most likely not vaccinated, especially wild or feral cats. Do not approach or attempt to handle. You will be putting yourself and your pets at risk.

Impoundment

For the protection of the dog and the community, any dog found "running at large" will be impounded at the animal shelter by the Animal Control Officer. The Town of Warwick has established the following fees: first offense - $35, second offense - $50, third offense - $75. The Town of Chester has established a $50.00 fee per impoundment. There are additional fees for each day the dog remains at the shelter. All dogs must have a current rabies inoculation and NY State dog license prior to leaving the facility.
